Top Seven Questions To Ask Your Addiction Recovery Center

Before embarking on an addiction recovery program, it’s imperative to ensure you find the right treatment center that’s not only experienced but caring. People struggling with addiction need to have support from loved ones and a rehab center that has their best interests at heart. Asking questions is a vital part of finding the right rehab program. Here are the top seven questions to ask.

1. What makes your drug rehab center different?

It’s important to ask any addiction recovery center what makes them unique since there are many treatment centers with which to choose. How does it differ from the competition? Is the staff caring, supportive, and patient with addicts? Do they offer a comprehensive program that includes several elements to the recovery process? Find out what makes them unique, what their mission is, and how you fit into the picture.

2. What type of treatment methods do you use?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), evidence-based programs seem to work the best and provide the most favorable outcomes for addicts. With many different programs available, it’s essential to find out if the rehab center has a proven track record of success.

3. What type of continuing care services do you have available after rehab?

Addicts must have continuing support since addiction recovery is an ongoing process. Many drug rehab programs offer outpatient programs to ensure individuals stay clean, so ask about their continuing programs and how they assist in managing relapses if they occur.

4. Does your treatment program provide family support?

Family involvement in an addict’s recovery is crucial, enabling them to recover and heal from substance abuse damage. A program for the whole family ensures everyone stays involved in the recovery process. These services may include intensive family counseling and therapy that educates them about drug and alcohol addiction, as well as helping mend family relations.

5. Can you treat clients with a dual diagnosis?

Sometimes substance abuse is coupled with a mental health disorder, which can make a recovery difficult. Disorders such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc. complicate things, so find out if a drug rehab center can treat both. Talk to their staff about their ability to handle a dual diagnosis and provide proper care for a full recovery.

6. How long are your rehab programs?

Depending on your personal needs and addiction severity, you or a loved one may need a longer rehab time to recover completely. Drug rehab programs vary from 30 to 90 days or longer. To achieve lasting sobriety, an addict may need a short or long rehab program commitment. Research shows an addict needs at least 90 days to sustain positive treatment outcomes.

7. Are you licensed and accredited?

At a minimum, a high-quality rehab center should meet the state’s license requirements, as well as receive accreditation through several different agencies. When they can show they’re an accredited facility provided by the following organizations, you’ll know their commitment to excellence:

  • The Joint Commission
  • The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF)
  • The Council on Accreditation (COA)
  • The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)
