What Is Rehab for Men?

Mens Rehab Program UtahRehab for men refers to gender-specific treatment programs designed to address the unique needs and experiences of male patients struggling with drug or alcohol addiction. These programs offer specialized adult rehab services that aim to help men overcome substance abuse and achieve lasting recovery.

Why Choose a Men’s Rehab Program?

A study on gender differences in drug and alcohol treatment cites that “substance abuse treatment programs which were originally designed for men may be inappropriate for the treatment of women,” and vice versa. Meaning that men and women may have different needs, and may respond differently to various rehab therapies.

There are several reasons to choose a men’s rehab program. For one, gender-specific treatment can provide a safe space for men to share their experiences and connect with others who may have had similar struggles.

Men’s rehab programs also often incorporate therapeutic approaches tailored to the specific needs of men, such as addressing issues related to masculinity and gender roles. Plus, men’s rehab programs may offer activities that cater to the interests of male patients, creating a more engaging and enjoyable experience.

Our staff has extensive experience helping men leave substance abuse behind and start a new journey in their lives. We offer both drug and alcohol treatment services:

Men’s Drug Rehab Center

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), men “are more likely than women to use almost all types of illicit drugs, and illicit drug use is more likely to result in emergency department visits or overdose deaths for men than for women.”

Drug addiction treatment programs designed for men aim to tackle gender-specific behaviors related to drug use and abuse. At Ardu, we offer both drug detox services and a men’s drug rehab program. Some of the types of drug addictions our staff is experienced in treating are:

Men’s Alcohol Rehab Center

Men “display a higher prevalence for alcoholism”, according to a recent study, and are more likely to binge drink. Plus, they are more likely than women to use both drugs and alcohol.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) found that “almost three-quarters of admissions for abuse of alcohol alone or for abuse of alcohol with secondary drug abuse (72 percent each) were male.”

Our alcohol addiction treatment staff is educated in male-specific alcohol abuse patterns and evidence based treatments that are proven to help men battle alcoholism. Visit our alcohol rehab page to learn more.

What Types of Treatment Are Available for Men at Ardu?

Ardu offers a range of treatment options for men struggling with addiction. Start your sobriety journey at our detox center, and then choose inpatient or outpatient treatment depending on your needs and preferences.

Alcohol and Drug Detox

Detox is a crucial first step in the drug and alcohol recovery process. The skilled and empathetic professionals at our drug and alcohol detox center will help you on your sobriety journey. We offer both medically-assisted and holistic detox and work with each patient to determine what is best for them.

Inpatient Treatment

Inpatient or residential treatment is drug and alcohol addiction treatment performed at a professional facility for a set period of time. If you have tried to quit your addiction multiple times before or are addicted to a substance that can cause serious withdrawal symptoms, inpatient rehab may be right for you.

Our inpatient facilities offer 24/7 empathetic support and professional care, and are an ideal option for men who need higher levels of care or medically supervised alcohol or drug addiction treatment.

Outpatient Treatment

Outpatient treatment is a type of addiction treatment that allows you to attend group and individual therapy while living at home or at a sober living facility. Ardu offers intensive outpatient programs and partial hospitalization programs where you can get structured outpatient treatment during the day, even if you can’t commit to staying at a treatment facility.

Co-occurring Disorder Treatment

Mental health disorders are commonly exacerbated by drug and alcohol abuse, and vice versa. A study on psychiatric disorders among male alcoholics found that “depression and antisocial personality were frequently co-occurring syndromes followed by drug abuse and mania.”

Personnel at our dual diagnosis treatment center can help you tackle both your mental illness and your addiction thanks to their extensive knowledge of trauma therapy and mental health treatment. Here are some of the dual diagnosis services we offer to men:

Types of Therapies Available at Ardu

Findings indicate providing male-appropriate psychological treatment requires clinicians to consider the impact of masculine socialization on their client and themselves, and how gender norms may impact clinical engagement and outcomes. (Seidler, et al.)

Our therapy programs include individual therapy and group therapy. We also offer medically assisted treatment and holistic treatment, and we work with you to determine the best course of action.

Medically Assisted Treatment

Medically assisted drug and alcohol treatment is a type of treatment that uses medication to help you manage withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Medications used in this type of treatment can include methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone for opioid addiction, and acamprosate and disulfiram for alcohol addiction.

Medically assisted treatment is typically used in combination with other forms of therapy, such as individual and group therapy, to provide a comprehensive approach to addiction recovery. It can be an effective option for people struggling with severe addiction and can help increase the chances of long-term recovery.

Holistic Treatment

Holistic treatment is an approach to addiction recovery that focuses on treating the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—rather than just the symptoms of addiction. Exercise therapy and relaxing yoga therapy are often used as part of holistic treatment to support physical and emotional healing.

Holistic treatment experts at Ardu recognize that addiction impacts all aspects of your life and aim to address all areas of need in order to promote lasting recovery and overall well-being. Contact us for more information.

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is a form of psychotherapy that involves one-on-one sessions between a therapist and a patient. Different types of therapy approaches can be used in individual therapy, such as dialectical behavior therapy programs, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and family therapy programs, depending on the patient’s needs and goals.

In individual therapy, therapists at Ardu work closely with you to explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, as well as identify patterns and help you develop coping skills and strategies to manage your symptoms.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy that involves a therapist leading a group of people who are struggling with similar issues. It provides a safe and supportive environment for members to share their emotions and experiences.

Group therapy can offer a range of benefits, including a sense of community, increased self-awareness, and the opportunity to learn from the experiences and perspectives of others.

Relapse prevention strategies, such as identifying triggers, developing coping skills, and building a strong support network, can also be incorporated into your aftercare planning. The goal of aftercare is to provide ongoing support and resources to help you maintain your sobriety and achieve lasting recovery.

What is the optimal substance use treatment plan?

The optimal substance use treatment plan should be tailored to your unique needs, circumstances, and preferences. This can involve a combination of different therapies and interventions, such as individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, medication-assisted treatment, and holistic therapies.

A comprehensive substance abuse treatment program should also address co-occurring mental health issues, provide ongoing support and resources, and incorporate relapse prevention strategies. The key to a successful treatment plan is to work with a team of experienced professionals (such as our personnel) who can provide personalized care and support throughout the recovery journey.
